soccer ball project
The Cape Verde Soccer Ball Project was a call out for interaction between continents, youth and adults. The project consisted of persons from two continents, North America and Europe, donating funds to purchase a soccer ball for a child, young adult, or school in Santiago in Cape Verde, Africa. The call out was received well and C.I.C.E.R. (Cape Verdean International & Cultural Exchange Residency) was able to take to the island over eighty soccer balls. All balls, except for a few which were defected, were delivered personally. Upon delivery images were taken when possible (bearing in mind that some kids did not want their images taken) and comments were registered. Each ball had the donor's name on it, at which point each recipient was encouraged to wonder about the origin of the donor, who s/he may be and where they may have come from. Being that most recipients were kids under the age of fourteen, such interactions entered a space of imagination and time, creating a conversation over the Atlantic Ocean. For the persons who have donated, the images 'brought back' are the closing circles where they too will now imagine an interaction between themselves, the balls and the recipients.
C.I.C.E.R. would like to thank all who participated in this call out, without your help and assistance this project could not have happened. We would specially like to thank these individuals/institutions below, for their time in constructing the documentations, for their time in delivering the balls, and their assistance in their purchase and transportation.
